You’re not going to get a “great karaoke system” for “under $500.00.
Forget the iBook as there is no good karaoke software for Mac computers.
For home use most people would be better off opting for an all-in-one system.

are you using a home theather style system or a home sterio for the audio output?
your ibook make a great portable storage system for your music files but you need to use a stonger audio source for everyone to hear you sing….=)
